Chippendale Coffee Table

Chippendale Coffee Table by Gerald Lauchle — view 1

This Peruvian mahogany coffee table is my own design that utilizes many classic elements of the Chippendale style: ball & claw feet, acanthus leaf carvings on the knees, and the shell on the long aprons. The finish is Minwax red mahogany stain followed by Constantine?s red mahogany paste wood filler. I then sprayed the surfaces with nitrocellulose lacquer sanding sealer and top-coated with about six coats of satin lacquer. A final rubout of the finish was with 600 grit wet-dry paper lubricated with a mixture of 10% mineral oil in turpentine. This is then followed by a paste wax.
