Looking Glass by Terry & Mary Ann Lutz — view 1

The frame of this diminutive architectural looking glass is an accurate copy of an original in our collection. I did the woodworking and my wife, Mary Ann, did the gilding and eglomise. The pine frame is gilded with 23K gold leaf. The rope columns are carved rather than turned, as were the originals. The cornice has 13 gilded spheres held in place with wires bent into a staple configuration. The upper glass has a gold etched border and a reverse painting of Columbia offering the chalice of liberty to the new republic, symbolized by the American bald eagle. The back is covered with a chamfered pine board. The approximate size (including cornice) is 13 by 24 inches.
