A similar looking glass was illustrated in Volume 2, Item 3076 (book has no page numbers) of the 1928 edition: Furniture Treasury, by Wallace Nutting. Many looking glasses of this period (late 18th and early 19th centuries) were imported from England. However, because of the presence of curly maple columns, this piece was probably made in America. The frame is made from Honduran mahogany. The half columns are curly maple. The finish is dewaxed garnet shellac. The back is covered with a chamfered pine board. My wife, Mary Ann, made the upper glass gold etching of an American eagle with garland which is similar to one documented in Albert Sack's book, Fine Points of Furniture (1950 edition, Page 212).
