Queen Anne Philadelphia Easy Chairs by Thomas Meiller — view 1

Primary: Black Walnut. Secondary: Poplar and White Pine Finish: Walnut husk stain, orange shellac, glaze made from burnt umber and oil. Upholstery by Ralph Dermota, York, PA I made these chairs from Gene Landon Masterworks plans. There was nothing easy about them; the arm construction is pretty complicated. I made both chairs over a two month period working nights and weekends. I was surprised to find each chair took the same amount of fabric as my 5 foot Chippendale sofa (7 yards). The upholstery method is 18th century - webbing and horse hair. They are very comfortable. I keep a picture of the chairs without upholstery near them in the living room so people can see all the woodworking!
