This reproduction is modeled after Ray Journigan’s example, with generous documentation and guidance from his 2018 APF article, numerous Facebook and Instagram posts, and the occasional obnoxious email question from me. This was a great challenge both in joinery and carving, and I learned a lot about sharp tools, patience, and design. This was definitely big league furniture making and practice pieces helped a bunch. Built from African mahogany, finished with Bona shellac from Jeff Jewitt, glazed, shellacked again with Super Blonde, rubbed out with pumice and mineral spirits, and waxed.
