Philadelphia Pie Crust Table

Philadelphia Pie Crust Table — view 1

I started this piece at Chuck Bender's shop (Acanthus Workshop) as a participant in a Philadlephia Style Pie Crust Table five day class.  The remainder of the build (6 months) was in my shop, using additional resources such as "Making a Pie Crust Table" by Heller and Clarkson, and Mary May's Ball and Claw Foot Carving class online. This is the first finished ball and claw foot for me, you should see the four or five practice samples in my shop ;).  Piece is Black Walnut, colored with a red / bit of black analine dye, finished with Garnet shellac and a topcoat of General Finishes high performance satin (for protection).  Piece was rubbed out with steel wool and Liberon black wax with a touch of rottenstone to get grime in crevices for character.  Loved the build, turning and carving highlighted in this wonderful piece, can't wait to build another!
