Bonnet-top Chest-on-Chest by Jeffrey Saylor — view 1

This is a reproduction of a circa 1780 Chippendale cherry bonnet-top chest-on-chest owned by C.L. Prickett, an antiques dealer in Yardley, PA. The piece, item 4896, was on display at the Philadelphia Antiques Show in 2010. I was allowed to photograph and measure the original and created all the moldings by hand-carving and molding planes. A nearly identical chest (in tiger maple) is in the Winterthur collection and is pictured in American Furniture: Queen Anne and Chippendale Periods by Joseph Downs, no. 182.
