My daughter-in-law asked me to build each of her children a box in which they could keep letters and other small treasures. I designed a simple dovetailed box with the plan to learn some simple, federal style, stringing and sand shading techniques that I can hopefully use on some later, more substantial, furniture projects. I have SketchUp plans available for free on my website, SteveCoulterFineWoodworking.com. It is an easy, nos-stressfull path to becoming acquainted with the basics of these techniques. I found Bob Van Dyke's, Fine Woodworking video on sand shading to be a huge help.
