Tea Caddy, c. 1810. Based on drawings done by Ronnie Young, and aided by an article by Rob Millard. Woods: Pine core with crotch mahogany veneer. Eagle patera made by scroll saw method. Holly, bloodwood, walnut veneers. The wings are sand shaded and the shield is made separately from staked bloodwood and holly, sawn and inlaid into patera after patera inlaid into box. Solid mahogany base frame includes apron and French feet mortised into apron. The inside of the lid is lined with bookbinder's paper. The tea compartments are lined with aluminum foil tape. (Originally lead foil was used, known to cause health problems.) Knobs on internal lids are turned ebony. French polish finish.
