Philadelphia Queen Anne Chair

Philadelphia Queen Anne Chair — view 1

This Philadelphia chair is from around the 1760s in the Queen Anne period.  I obtained the plans from The Old Mill Cabinet Shop and used FWW issue #186, Eugene Landon article. This chair has been a lot of firsts for me - first chair made, first time carving, first upholstery.  The wood I selected is cherry.  The finish is a mix of spar varnish, linseed oil, and paint thinner.  All the joints are mortise and tenon. Carving was the most challenging aspect of this project, but with help from Mary May's videos and a SAPFM meeting at Alan Breed's workshop, the project was doable. The chair was upholstered in the traditional way, using horse hair over webbing.
