Virginia Side Chair

Virginia Side Chair

Virginia Colonial Furniture tended to be less ornate than some of the other colonies. But, this was frequently accomplished without a loss of elegance. This chair is a good example of the simple elegance of Virginia Period Furniture. It was built with Lonnie Bird plans and I did much of his work at his school. He designed this chair from an 18th century example on exhibit at Colonial Williamsburg. The original had a pierced back splat.
