This cradle is based on an 18th century "Maryland" cradle in a Raleigh, N.C. museum house (The Joel Lane house). Made of North Carolina field-grown walnut. The sides are joined by double beveled hand-cut dovetails. The finish is a water based aniline dye, Danish oil(cut in half), rubbed out with wax and steel wool. The piece appeared in Fine Woodworking's Current Work, in August 2001.
